Author VisitsA new Tiny Tortilla bookstore/ School Visits Shimmer the Dragon and I are ready to travel to your school for an author visit. My programs are: AM I A DRAGON YET? For grades 1 and 2 (can include grade 3) Length: 1 hour A fun program that explores the imagination as students work to build a character, in this case a dragon, to use in a story. My original story, AM I A DRAGON YET?, is told using a felt-board. Then, with the help of a magic dragon costume, I turn into a dragon, bit by bit, as we discuss all the ideas students can use to create their own dragon characters. At the end, volunteers come up to the "Hot Seat" to tell about their own wonderful dragons. THE DRAGON FACTORY For grades 3 and 4 (possible for grade 5) Length: 1 hour An expanded version of the first program, with more details about building a strong character. My original story, THE DRAGON FACTORY, is read (with a felt board as an aid) and the dragon costume is used to develop the character of a slightly mischievous dragon, named Shimmer. At the end, student volunteers are placed on the "Hot Seat", to create their own dragons on the spot. THE MASA AND MYSTERY OF WRITING For grades 5 and 6 Length: 1 hour A more intensive look at the creative writing process, focusing on generating the ideas for a story. Student volunteers become the Detective, the Mind Reader, and the Schemer as we brainstorm ideas for turning a name into a character and then a story. TORTILLA FUN For Kindergarten Length: 25 minutes An interactive re-telling of TINY TORTILLA, complete with felt tortillas that turn into the strangest of things.
